Brazil: Short-Run Newspaper Production on the 880 Series

A newspaper printing operation in Brazil uses the 880 Series roll-to-roll digital inkjet press for short-run editions and late copy changes that are uneconomical on offset.

The press prints on newsprint and offset paper from 70 to 160 gsm, with a maximum web width of 880 mm and front-to-back registration of ±0.2 mm. In high-speed mode it runs at up to 200 m/min, so late-edition work can be completed without holding up the main production schedule.

Because jobs are printed directly from digital data, there are no plates to make ready and no minimum run length. The printer can combine several short editions in one shift and adjust pagination or regional pages without stopping the line.

The single-black configuration handles text-heavy pages at low cost per copy, while the full-color configuration covers special sections and promotional pages. Cluster control and ERP integration allow the press to be managed together with the rest of the production workflow.
